Fasting For Growth

Fasting For Growth

Our pastor is currently leading our church in a sermon series titled Get Growing, culminating in a 10 Day fasting and devotional focus between Ascension Day and Pentecost. Each day’s fast is something different, with a specific prayer request for the day. I’m posting the outline below, so if you feel led to take part and pray for your own community and church, feel free to follow along.

Friday, 15 May

Spending fast – spend no money today. Pray for your children, the children’s ministries in your church, and the children of your city.

Saturday, 16 May

TV fast – no TV or movies today. Pray for your youth, the youth ministries in your church, and the youth of your city.

Sunday, 17 May

Media fast – no Internet, no social media, no newspapers. Pray for the young adults in your church, for discernment and deep roots of faith.

Monday, 18 May

Delicacy fast – no sweets or chocolates. Pray for your families, for strong marriages and relationships.

Tuesday, 19 May

Coffee/Tea fast – no hot beverages. Pray for your senior citizens, for God’s comfort.

Wednesday, 20 May

Water Fast – drink only water, no other beverages. Pray for your pastors, elders and church leaders.

Thursday, 21 May

Vegetable fast – Drink anything, but eat only vegetables and fruit. Pray for the financial resources of your church.

Friday, 22 May

Total vegetable fast – only water and fruit and vegetables. Pray for your church’s missionaries, and for new missionaries to be sent.

Saturday, 23 May

Sunrise to sunset fast – Total fast. Pray for your church’s local ministries.

I’m pretty sure that the media fast is going to be hardest for me, though I have no doubt the break from social media will be good for me. The TV fast is also going to be hard, mostly because it means the girls won’t be getting any screen time so it’s going to be a very long Saturday for us.
