And August 2015 marks the beginning of our homeschooling adventure.
I am using Reading the Alphabet with Angie and Learning the Alphabet with Emmy. Both are from This Reading Mama. I don’t want to do a really heavy curriculum with them right now, especially since we’re homeschooling newbies and still in the “figuring things out” stage.
Our first week was a relaxed one. We began on Monday with a special breakfast of flapjacks.
We also took “first day of school” photos.
Our letter this week was “T” and Angie learned the sight word “a”.
I taught them this T is for tiger rhyme and they have been reciting it and doing the actions all week. Emmy particularly loves doing the pirouette at the end. Feel free to download the rhyme and use it with your kids.
The girls made paper plate turtles inspired by this post.
Angie loved that she got to sleep in until 8am. (She is a much happier child when she wakes up at this time.) She also enjoyed dressing up for school.
We’re still settling into a routine, and I think it’s still quite a novelty for the girls. It seems like they’re transitioning well, though, and there have been no requests to go back to their preschool or tears for their friends. I have no doubt we are in the honeymoon stage – I just hope it lasts for a while.
Do you do anything special for the first day of school?
