Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that you all had a blessed Christmas time with family and friends. We spent Christmas with my husband’s family in Lydenburg. (As a result, Rafe has now added the word “cousins” to his vocabulary.)

The mother’s morning basket has turned out to be just what I needed. For the first time in a long time, I feel I’m actually getting to read something for my own sake, and not for school or as a readaloud. I don’t read every book in the basket every day, and sometimes I don’t even manage a an entire chapter in one go, but it doesn’t matter because it’s reading for me.
It’s tradition that my Mom buys me a devotional every Christmas. The last couple of years it’s been Nina Smit. I did ask her if she was hinting at something with the large print. (Jacques gleefully pointed out some grey hairs the other day, so I reminded him he’s actually older than me.)
I found this book on our bookshelf, and it seems like something worth reading.
This one also looks really interesting.
This one is kind of for school. The Kindle is also for school. 🙂
I have started keeping a commonplace journal as well. I’m not used to writing in cursive these days, and it shows. So far, all my quotes are from pre-reading Angie’s books. (We start school on Monday and I can’t wait!)
What’s in your January mother’s morning basket?
